WHAT MAKES A GREAT PAIR OF SUNGLASSES?

You want sunglasses that provide the following:

• Block at least 99% of UVA and UVB rays

• Fit properly on your face- You want sunglasses that do not touch your eyelashes, but line up with your brow

• You want sunglasses that are not only functional but aesthetically pleasing (make you look younger). That being said you do not want any sunglasses that are labeled "Cosmetic".

• You want to choose the correct lense color-

• Gray lenses reduce light intensity without affecting contrast or distorting colors

• Brown lenses partially enhance contrast by blocking some blue light

• Amber/yellow lenses enhance contrast because they block most or all blue light

• Red/orange lenses are good for snow sports on overcast days

• Blue and green sunglasses enhance contrast

• You want scratch resistant lenses

Type of Frames:

• Rounded frames are great with a square face

• Rectangular frames are great with a heart shaped face

• Square frames are great with a round face.

Eye-related benefits: Lutein and zeaxanthin protect the eyes from harmful high-energy light waves, such as some ultraviolet rays in sunlight. Studies suggest that high levels of lutein and zeaxathin in eye tissue are associated with better vision

There is no recommended daily allowances for Lutein or zeaxanthin, but The American Optometric Association recommends 10 mg/day of lutein and 2 mg/day for zeaxanthin.
